House Project: the upstairs bathroom

The upstairs bathroom before was a very pale, buttercreamy yellow. I was looking for a "before" picture of the bathroom in our old pictures but don't think I had taken one.

So thinking "Panera colors" and earth tones, I spiced it up a little. I picked a deep brown/orange color. It looks brighter in these pictures than on the wall.

I did it all in one afternoon naptime. I need to repaint the trim in the bathroom white since Noah "helped" paint for a few minutes and managed to smear paint on the trim....go figure!

House Project: Garage Bike Lift

We are still working on our garage. There are shelves to be purchased and hung and items to be organized. Jason's goal is always to be able to park both cars in our regular-size 2 car garage (no bump out). That's tough with all the bikes and kids toys. So last weekend, Jason worked on this project for several hours to hang our bikes from the ceiling above his car. (And of course, if Daddy is working with tools, Noah has to get in on the action too.)

house project: the back door

A few weeks ago Jason and Gary worked on wrapping our back door in aluminum. This is how it looked at first. The wood around the door was warped and rotting or something.

The garage is Grandpa Gary and Noah's workshop. Several hours of work on the house, and Noah just must participate!!

Finished product. Not only did it solve the problem and save us from replacing a door, but it actually just looks SO much better!

Noah's Bedroom

Since we bought a foreclosed house, oftentimes there is plenty of work to be done to bring the house up to the position of a standard house on the market. Like most of the rooms in our house, Noah's bedroom was a sloppy paint job that needed to be repainted.

Before.

Before. Why did it need to be repainted?

Before. I don't think the previous owners knew to take off the outlet covers before painting....???

Before. And maybe they didn't realize there are angled trim brushes or even tape for painting straight lines....

Jason starts the endless process of mudding holes and dents in the walls.

He then sands out the spots so we can prime the walls. This turned out to be quite a big job.

Jason puts down tape on the trim for a clean line. Notice that we do take the outlet covers off.

The new paint is dry, and Jason hangs the blinds. The new paint looks the same color as the old paint, but it wasn't really that close. The new paint is more aqua.

After. Carpet is cleaned, curtains are hung and Noah's room is back in order.

The project cost was relatively low: the cost of primer and paint!

Weekend Project: the Kitchen Faucet

Jason spent many hours working on replacing our leaky kitchen faucet. Here are a few pics (sorry for the bad quality).

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I love the new faucet. It has the pull-down sprayer and can switch to have a spray stream. Jason and I enjoy the fact that we are making our place a little more "our own" as we do small projects like this.

Working on the new house the past month

2700 square feet of work:
many hours, many people, a lot of money, and a work still in progress
We closed March 12 and moved in March 20.
The majority of the painting was finished by the end of March by Jill, my mom, Jason, Melody, Mark, and me. There are still three bedrooms to paint, a hallway, and all of the trim in the house....so plenty left!
I will let the pictures in this post speak for themselves....
