Earlier this week we visited Traders Point Creamery with the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group and their kiddos. It is a local organic farm committed to raising grass-fed beef and free range chickens. All of their milk, cheese, yogurt, spreads, and ice cream tasted much fresher than anything I've bought in the grocery store.
We toured the barn where the baby cows and the steers were eating. Though very curious, Noah was a little afraid of the big steers! This barn was originally from Geneva, Indiana and transported down to its current location in Zionsville.

He had a great time climbing up and playing on the bundles of hay that were stacked in the barns.

Noah would not quite sit with the group for the Mops kids' picture, so he's not really in this picture. Actually he is playing in the hay behind the little boy who is standing behind the kids.

These are some of the dairy cows on the farm. The cows got pretty close to us, since the tour guide turned off the electric fence. (Probably not a good idea to have that on with little toddlers and preschoolers running around!) I did not know that dairy cows grow horns, but most cattle farmers remove them. This organic farm wanted to keep things as natural as possible, so they do not remove the horns.
In the milking room, we got to see how the cows are milked. This is the contraption that connects to the cow and pumps out the milk. Somehow having nursed Noah for 8 months, I could relate to this picture!
To close the tour, we sampled chocolate whole milk, wildberry yogurt, vanilla yogurt, cheese spread, and ice cream! Noah was very, very, very fond of the chocolate milk. He has never had chocolate milk before, so he might have gotten hooked. They do pasteurize the milk, but not to the extent that it is pasteurized in the grocery store, so it has a fresher taste. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the milk and yogurt. I don't think I appreciate the taste of fresh milk. I like my overly-sanitized grocery store products. But all in all it was a fun little tour. :)
